Tikal

Flores, Guatemala

Today has been a rainy day here in the Jungle province of Peten.

Yesterday I left Antigua for a brief stop in Guatemala City and took a bus up to Flores. To be honest it was the worst busride of my entire life, even the one in Cambodia can´t compare. We were suppose to have the first class bus but since our driver from Antigua was late we had to take a 2nd class bus. Crowed, hot and painfully slow. We also got stopped two times by police officers who wanted to show the authourity and was forced everyone off the bus.

The highlight of today was a visit to the famous maya ruins of Tikal, which is situated an hours drive north from Flores.

The tempel area was huge and it took hours just to walk through it all. In addition there is rainforest with lots of wildlife surrounding the entire area.

I saw everything from humming birds to crocodiles and monkeys. The funniest and the most beautiful animal was the parrot, you could here them several hundred meters away when they were eating and chatting in a fruit tree.
